from 20th of january to 4th of march 2012 the viennese city hall square (rathausplatz) will be transformed into a gigantic ice surface, making it a paradise for ice skating fans of all ages.
the dreamily lit facade of the viennese city hall forms the backdrop for the vienna ice world. an ice surface over 7.000 m2 offers ice skating fans a fairy tale ice landscape. skaters of all styles can glide around the rink daily from 9 am to 10 pm to the hits of the 80s and 90s as well as waltzes.
a dreamlike ice path winds its way through the romantically lit city hall park and is a full kilometer long this year. four curling lanes are also waiting to entertain visitors. seven restaurateurs will be on hand at various stands to pamper guests with crispy waffles, cheese spätzle, baked potatoes and other delicacies. naturally, hot beverages are also available to keep you warm at the vienna ice world, from aromatic punch to hot tea. the new "alpine chalet" now also offers an inviting setting for a warm-up break.
1.200 pairs of ice skates preheated with warm air can be rented on-site!
clear the stage for cats
the hit musical cats is set to return to vienna on 29th of january 2012. rum tum tugger, mr. mistoffelees, grizabella and other pussy cats vie for another cat's life in the black theater tent.
the production is the original London version of cats in german. the audience takes part more than ever before in the hustle and bustle of the legendary cats' ball, because up to three quarters of the circular stage is surrounded by rows of spectators. none of the 1.800 seats is more than 20 meters from the middle, where the four-legged creatures skulk around on their golden shimmering junk yard.
the story of cats is based on the literary draft of nobel prize winner t. s. eliot, while the world-famous melodies are by andrew lloyd webber. his cats songs have written musical history: everyone knows the stirring song "memory", sung by stars such as barbra streisand and angelika milster. curtain up for grizabella and the acrobatic silk paws of the "jellicle" clowder of cats.
